As a Boston native and an avid animal lover, I am so pleased to see this new Bill currently awaiting approval by the Massachusetts House. The Bill requires landlords to inspect vacant buildings for animals or pets within five days of a property being vacated through foreclosure or the loss of tenancy. If an abandoned animal is found after someone leaves their property, the landlord or property owner would be required to immediately notify a local animal control officer.

Great news for current and potential owners of properties in flood zones. President Obama has signed the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act of 2014. Before the bill was signed, homeowners were facing huge increases in their flood insurance bills. The new law caps flood insurance premium increases and allows below-market insurance rates to be passed on to people buying homes in flood zones with taxpayer-subsidized policies.
